The Republic of Moldova marks 31 years since joining the Council of Europe on Monday, July 13. The country officially became a member of the organization on July 13, 1995.

The membership reflects Moldova’s commitment to the shared European values promoted by the Council of Europe, including human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

Over the past three decades, cooperation with the Council of Europe has supported the modernization of institutions, strengthened the justice system, and contributed to the protection of fundamental freedoms in Moldova.

“Today, the standards and recommendations of the Council of Europe remain important for Moldova’s reforms and for bringing the country closer to European values and practices,” the EU Delegation to Moldova said.
