Moldovan authorities are currently negotiating direct bilateral contracts with major energy producers for medium- and long-term electricity supplies. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan made the statement during a Parliament session, as lawmakers considered a request to introduce a state of emergency in the energy and hydrological sectors for 60 days starting September 26.
“I don’t want to reveal all our cards, but I can tell you that we are currently holding negotiations, including on medium- and long-term bilateral contracts,” Tofan said, according to Bani.md.
The prime minister declined to disclose which countries or energy producers are involved, but suggested that the talks concern major regional players.
“If we secure such direct contracts with major producers, I will not name the countries, but you know which ones they are, we will obviously do it in a very transparent manner,” the prime minister said.
