Moldova Railway Company (Calea Ferata din Moldova, CFM) will undergo reorganization, and starting in 2026 two separate economic entities will operate: CFM Infrastructure and CFM Freight, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea announced, according to IPN.
The minister said that CFM Infrastructure will manage and develop the railway infrastructure system, while CFM Freight will provide freight and passenger transport services.
“One entity can receive state subsidies, because infrastructure will remain a state monopoly and cannot be privatized. The other will operate as an economic entity that must generate income by providing services to companies and individuals in the Republic of Moldova and abroad. That is why the separation is mandatory,” Vladimir Bolea explained during a press club meeting.
He added that the two entities will be registered separately with the Public Services Agency, and the reorganization process will be completed in 2026.
Vladimir Bolea also said that the company’s financial situation has improved in recent months. According to him, CFM revenues reached 72 million lei in September, which allowed the company to pay salaries on a regular basis.
Salary arrears have decreased from nine months to four months. Since September, CFM has had a new administrator, Sergiu Cotelnic, whose candidacy the company’s trade unions proposed.
