Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu announced at the CESEC ministerial meeting in Bucharest that the Republic of Moldova will import natural gas from the Caspian Sea and liquefied natural gas (LNG) through terminals in Greece after integrating into the Vertical Gas Corridor Greece–Bulgaria–Romania–Moldova–Ukraine.

Junghietu stated that this step strengthens Moldova’s energy security and regional stability, enabling the country to transport gas to Ukraine using its own infrastructure. To encourage use of the regional route “Route 1,” Moldova reduced transportation tariffs by 50% at the Causeni and Grebenyky interconnection points.

The minister highlighted that Energocom became the first company to commercially use this route, transporting LNG from the USA via the Alexandroupolis LNG terminal. Junghietu added that Moldova enters the 2025/2026 winter with over 90% of its gas needs secured, thanks to diversified sources and closer integration into the European energy market.
