Student scholarships in Moldova will increase by at least 40% starting with the 2026–2027 academic year. For most fields of study, the Category I scholarship will rise to 1,905 lei, while the highest scholarships, reaching 4,565 lei, will be available to students in health and education sciences.
For most students, the Category I scholarship will increase from 1,360 to 1,905 lei. The Category II scholarship will rise from 1,160 to 1,625 lei, while the Category III scholarship will increase from 1,065 to 1,490 lei.
The largest increases will apply to students in health-related fields. Starting September 1, they will receive 4,565 lei for Category I, 3,900 lei for Category II and 3,565 lei for Category III scholarships.
The same amounts will apply to students studying education sciences: 4,565 lei for Category I, 3,900 lei for Category II and 3,565 lei for Category III.
A special system will also apply to students enrolled in STEAM fields — science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Scholarships in these fields will be 50% higher than the general level, with Category I reaching 2,855 lei, Category II 2,435 lei and Category III 2,250 lei.
Students enrolled in full-time undergraduate education programmes and STEAM fields at state-funded places will receive scholarships throughout their entire period of study. The number of beneficiaries in these categories will not be capped.
Scholarships will also increase for students studying agricultural sciences. Category I will amount to 2,280 lei, Category II to 1,955 lei and Category III to 1,785 lei.
Along with the increases, the eligibility criteria for scholarships will also change. Students will need a minimum average grade of 8.5 to qualify for a Category I scholarship, 8.0 for Category II and 7.0 for Category III.
At the same time, the number of beneficiaries will be limited depending on the level of education. Universities will be able to award scholarships to no more than 50% of undergraduate students and no more than 30% of master’s students. In colleges and centers of excellence, scholarships will be available to up to 70% of students enrolled in full-time programmes.
Merit scholarships will also increase. The Republic Scholarship will rise from 4,450 to 6,230 lei, the President of the Republic of Moldova Scholarship from 4,045 to 5,665 lei, and the Government Scholarship from 3,710 to 5,195 lei.
The social scholarship for higher education students will also increase starting September 1, from 720 to 1,000 lei per month.
