During a working visit by British MPs Anneliese Dodds (Labour Party) and John Whittingdale (Conservative Party) to Chisinau, President Maia Sandu emphasized the progress on a key bilateral agreement: the mutual recognition of driving licenses between the Republic of Moldova and the United Kingdom.
Facilitating Integration of Moldovans in the UK
President Sandu expressed hope that the UK Parliament will soon ratify the agreement, which would ease mobility and integration for Moldovan citizens living in the UK. The deal will simplify daily life for thousands of Moldovans, enhancing their ability to work, travel, and integrate more fully into British society.
“This agreement is a step forward for our citizens settled in the UK and will facilitate their integration and mobility,” said President Sandu.

Boosting Bilateral Cooperation
Talks also focused on strengthening bilateral ties and expanding UK support for Moldova across multiple sectors. President Sandu highlighted the positive role of the Moldovan diaspora in the UK, which contributes actively to the economic development of both countries.
Enhanced Market Access for Moldovan Farmers
Another key achievement discussed was the recent liberalization of exports from Moldova to the UK, specifically the removal of customs duties on agricultural products such as apples, plums, and grapes. This measure:
- Broadens access to the UK market for Moldovan producers
- Strengthens rural economies
- Reinforces Moldova’s economic resilience
Regional Security and Shared Values
In the context of regional security, President Sandu thanked the UK for its continued support of Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. She noted that Ukrainian resistance contributes directly to Moldova’s peace and stability.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to European security and democratic values.
