Starting 1 May, the export capacity of electricity from the joint Moldova–Ukraine energy block to the European ENTSO-E network increased from 550 MW to 650 MW.
According to Moldelectrica, this boost will enable higher electricity exports to Romania and potentially other EU countries, reinforcing Moldova’s role as a regional energy supplier.
“With the increased export capacity on the UAMD block, the cross-border transfer capacity (NTC) at the Moldova–Romania border rose from 82 MW to 97 MW, expanding opportunities for electricity trade with EU member states,” the company reported.

Moldova typically increases electricity exports in the spring, as domestic consumption drops due to warmer weather and renewable energy production, especially from solar and hydro sources, rises.
This development will help renewable energy producers in Moldova more easily access competitive EU markets, allowing them to capitalize more effectively on the country’s green energy potential.
