Moldovan citizens will be able to request child support even if the responsible parent lives abroad. IPN reports that today, the government approved a draft law for Moldova to join the Hague Convention on the International Recovery of Child Support and the accompanying Protocol on Applicable Law.
The draft law ensures that children and other dependents will receive social benefits when the obligated parent resides in another country.
By joining the Hague Convention, Moldovan authorities will gain the ability to collaborate with member states to recover child support from parents living abroad.
“Once we fully join this convention, we’ll provide stronger protection in cases where parents lack financial support for raising their children,” said Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu during the cabinet meeting.
