Moldovan crescent pastries have been prepared for generations in homes across the country, following recipes passed down through families. Among the most beloved fillings are sour cherries, plum jam and walnuts. Every homemaker has her own secret for making tender pastry and a filling that preserves the taste of childhood.

To prepare crescent pastries with sour cherries, we need just four ingredients – sifted flour, sour cream, lard and a little salt. The amounts of lard and sour cream should be equal. Once the dough has been kneaded and kept in the refrigerator for several hours, it is rolled out and shaped.

“If we rush, they will not turn out nicely. Our ancestors used to say that you should be in a good mood and not argue with anyone,” a woman revealed in a Realitatea report.

Moldova is more than just a place on the map. Moldova is about the people and the places where we feel at home – places that keep the history and culture of our people alive, bringing back memories and stirring feelings of joy and longing whenever we are far from home.
