A 35-year-old Moldovan citizen, Nicu Terletchi, died in Italy just 24 hours after arriving in the country to work in the construction sector. The man passed away on August 4 after falling ill at a construction site near Allegri Airport in Padua. Italian authorities have launched an investigation into the case, according to TG Padova.
Italian media reported that Terletchi was married to a Moldovan woman and had recently arrived in Italy. He reportedly spent his first night at the home of a construction contractor, where several other workers were staying. Although he had not yet signed an employment contract, he went to a construction site the following day. At around 1:00 p.m., he suddenly became ill.
He was later taken back to his employer’s residence, but his condition continued to deteriorate. Emergency medical services were called only about two and a half hours later. By the time paramedics arrived, they were unable to save his life.
Italian authorities are investigating the incident, and six Romanian men are under investigation for allegedly failing to provide timely assistance, which may have contributed to the man’s death. Investigators are examining why emergency services were not contacted immediately after he lost consciousness.
Preliminary medical findings indicate that Terletchi died of a heart attack. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the extreme heat during that period may have worsened his condition.
The Carabinieri continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
