“Moldovan Post Office” launches the “Year 2025 – Year of the Snake” series of postmarks in cooperation with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Moldova

The state-owned company “Moldovan Post Office” has issued a new stamp and postal cancellation dedicated to the year 2025, which according to the Chinese zodiac, is the year of the snake. The project was supported by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in the Republic of Moldova and is in its second edition. The event holds special significance for strengthening the friendship between the Republic of Moldova and the PRC, as appreciated by the state institution representatives present at the stamp’s launch, Moldpres reports.

‘The postage stamp is a country’s messenger that easily reaches every corner of the world’

The launch of the ‘2025 – Year of the Snake’ postal stamp is the result of a collaboration between I.S. ‘Moldovan Post Office’ and the PRC Embassy in the Republic of Moldova. The idea belongs to the Chinese side, and the first stamp launched under this cooperation was dedicated to the year 2024, the year of the Dragon.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, Violeta Cojocaru, the manager of ‘Moldovan Post Office,’ noted that through the launch of new stamps, the company aims to promote culture, traditions, and personalities.

We are at a second event of this kind and, of course, it brings us closer culturally to this country, teaching us to collaborate on other segments, aside from economy, leading us onto the realm of beauty, as the postage stamp is a country’s messenger that easily reaches any corner of the world, thanks to collectors and those who through postal mailings put these stamps in the international postal circuit,’ said Violeta Cojocaru.

The Snake – a symbol of wisdom, luck, and vitality

The project announces a viability of 12 years, precisely how long a cycle lasts in the Chinese perception. In China, the snake symbolizes wisdom, luck, and vitality, declared Yan Wenbin, the ambassador of China in the Republic of Moldova. The ambassador expressed gratitude to the partners in realizing this project and wished the Moldovans health, happiness, and wealth in the year of the Snake.

Last year we launched for the first time since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Moldova zodiacal stamps. This stamp was highly appreciated by friends here. We then agreed to continue this tradition for at least 12 years because in China 12 years is a cycle. This year we achieved this goal and will continue. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts to all colleagues from Moldovan Post, thanks too to Natalia, the artist, as it was beyond our expectations.

In China, the snake symbolizes wisdom, luck, and vitality. I hope everyone will enjoy these virtues, hope for the prosperity of the two peoples, and hope for cooperation in the cultural and tourism fields between the two countries. I wish you health, happiness, and wealth in this new year’, wished Yan Wenbin, the Chinese ambassador to Chisinau.

Snake in Cherry Blossoms

The postal stamp features a green snake placed in a setting with cherry blossoms, a Chinese lantern, and a mosaic element. The design was created by Natalia Satarova, a young visual artist, and is closely related to the content of her Bachelor’s thesis defended in 2024.

I haven’t had the chance to visit China, but my first cooperation with Moldovan Post Office was about creating designs for several stamps inspired by my bachelor’s thesis. There are many numerological and astrological symbols which fascinate me. Many artists use these symbols’, stated the artist to MOLDPRES.

The young artist revealed her wish for 2025 – to pursue her master’s degree abroad and hopes that the year 2025 will bring her fulfillment.
