Socialist MPs are proposing a moratorium on utility disconnections during the cold season for citizens who have unpaid bills. The lawmakers are also calling for an increase in compensation payments.
According to MP Vladimir Odnostalco, the minimum payment should be raised to 1,000 lei, while the maximum amount of support should reach 2,000 lei. He said the proposal comes amid increases in tariffs for natural gas, centralised heating, firewood, and coal.
“The criteria for granting compensation should not include the death benefits received by pensioners. (…) It is not right for a car purchased by a family on credit to be used as a criterion. (…) A car is not a luxury today; it is a necessity,” the MP said during a briefing.
The Socialists plan to request that the draft proposal be added to the agenda of the next parliamentary sitting, scheduled for Thursday, October 22.
