Moldovan Students Win Four Medals at Balkan Physics Olympiad

The Olympic Team of the Republic of Moldova earned one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal at the 7th Balkan Physics Olympiad, held from June 26 to 30 in Ohrid, North Macedonia, the Ministry of Education and Research (MER) announced in a press release.

Alex Secrieru, a 10th-grade student at the “Orizont” Theoretical High School in Durlesti, Chisinau, won the gold medal. His classmates, Victor Sandu and Vladislav Smochina, also in the 10th grade at “Orizont,” received silver medals. Alexandru Macovei, a 10th-grade student at the “Prometeu-Prim” High School of Creativity and Invention in Chisinau, earned the bronze medal.

A total of 62 students from 16 countries participated in this year’s Olympiad. Moldova’s delegation included four students and two team leaders:

The team was led by Dr. Sergiu Carlig, from the Institute of Applied Physics at the State University of Moldova, and Dr. Serghei Bazgan, also from the same institute, who served as deputy leader.

The Ministry congratulated the students and mentors for their outstanding performance and for representing Moldova with excellence on the international stage.
