Moldovans spent over €540 million on vacations this year

Moldovans spent over €540 million on vacations this year, according to economist Veaceslav Ionita. This figure includes all types of international trips, both organized and independent, as well as additional expenses. Ionita predicts that by the end of 2024, over 400,000 Moldovans will have traveled through travel agencies, as reported by IPN.

Travel Trends and Preferences

“Moldovans continue to demonstrate their love for travel, with some managing to take three to four trips a year,” Ionita noted.

He explained that agency-organized holidays cost an average of €560 per person, excluding extra expenses. Meanwhile, more than 460,000 Moldovans prefer to plan their trips, opting for independent travel.

Shift in Destinations

Ionita highlighted that the ongoing war in Ukraine has significantly reduced trips to the country. Previously, Ukraine was a popular destination for both summer and winter vacations. Despite this, Moldovans have discovered alternative destinations and continue to prioritize international travel.

Economic Impact

“The amount spent on vacations this year is equivalent to Moldova’s wine exports over five years. Vacations are more than just relaxation; they reflect how Moldovans value investing in experiences, memories, and personal well-being,” Ionita emphasized.

This trend underscores the increasing importance of travel as a form of self-investment for Moldovans, even amidst changing geopolitical landscapes.
