Natural gas prices could rise again in Moldova. Energocom submitted a request to the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) on September 23 to adjust regulated natural gas supply tariffs. The final tariff for household consumers could exceed 26 lei per cubic meter.
The request comes amid a significant increase in gas prices on the European market. According to Energocom, since its previous tariff adjustment request, submitted on July 15, 2026, European gas prices have increased by 42.15%.
When the current tariffs were approved, an average procurement price of approximately €56.25 per MWh was taken into account for August–December 2026. Since then, TTF prices have exceeded €75 per MWh, while Energocom estimates an average of approximately €76.6 per MWh for October, with comparable levels expected in November and December.
How Much Could Gas Cost?
In its request to ANRE, Energocom proposed the following prices, excluding VAT:
- 18,744 lei per 1,000 cubic meters at entry points into the transmission network;
- 19,331 lei per 1,000 cubic meters at exit points from the transmission network;
- 19,727 lei per 1,000 cubic meters at the exit from high-pressure distribution networks;
- 20,796 lei per 1,000 cubic meters at the exit from medium-pressure distribution networks;
- 24,305 lei per 1,000 cubic meters at the exit from low-pressure distribution networks.
For household consumers, the relevant tariff is the one for low-pressure networks. With 8% VAT, the proposed price of 24,305 lei per 1,000 cubic meters would rise to 26,249.40 lei per 1,000 cubic meters, or approximately 26.25 lei per cubic meter.
Therefore, if ANRE fully approves Energocom’s proposal, household consumers could pay around 26.25 lei per cubic meter, including VAT.
Energocom says the proposed increase is driven by higher procurement costs and external factors, including geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, reduced liquefied natural gas supplies, European storage levels and competition for available gas between European and Asian markets.
Moldova’s last gas tariff increase took effect on September 1, 2026. Consumers currently pay 20.30 lei per cubic meter, including VAT, following an increase of approximately 41%, or nearly 6 lei per cubic meter, from the previous tariff of 14.42 lei per cubic meter.
