In the first quarter of 2024, Moldova’s total direct debt to international organizations decreased by $74.37 million (-2.2%) to $3.281.71 billion. According to the National Bank of Moldova, debt reduction occurred in various directions, with significant differences among creditors.
Government debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) decreased in January-March 2024 by 3.3%, from $1.121.52 billion (at the end of 2023) to $1.084.7 billion (at the end of the first quarter of 2024), bani.md reports.
At the same time, debt to the International Development Association (IDA), part of the World Bank Group, decreased by 1.4%, from $808.07 million to $796.59 million. On the other hand, the debt to the European Investment Bank (EIB) increased by 1.1%, from $406.56 million to $411.11 million. The debt to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) fell by 4.1%, from $315.23 million to $302.18 million.

National debt to the European Commission decreased by 3% from 294.71 million dollars to 285.78 million dollars. The debt to the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), another component of the World Bank Group, fell by 2.6%, from $261.06 million to $254.23 million.
The debt to the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) increased by 1.2%, from 75.43 million dollars to 76.32 million dollars. By contrast, the debt to the Council of Europe Development Bank fell by 3.7% from $73.5 million to $70.8 million.
These changes reflect Moldova’s efforts to manage its external debt and improve its long-term financial stability.
