The Government of the Republic of Moldova is expected to approve this week the denunciation of the statute of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the agreement on the establishment of the organization. Authorities have included the topics on the agenda of the Cabinet meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
Last week, the Parliament’s Foreign Policy Commission approved the initiation of Moldova’s withdrawal from the CIS. After the government adopts the denunciation drafts, lawmakers will return them to Parliament for debates in plenary session.
Igor Grosu said in discussions with journalists that the authorities in Chisinau expect to finalize the procedures for denouncing CIS agreements during the Easter holidays.
After Russia attacked Ukraine in 2022, Moldova began reviewing agreements within the CIS and denouncing several documents signed within the organization.
Out of the 283 agreements, Moldova has already denounced 71, while authorities are currently examining about 60 more, according to information previously presented by Parliament Vice Speaker Doina Gherman.
