Morocco’s Foreign Minister in Chisinau: We Are Proud to Be Moldova’s Partner

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi hosted Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita. It marked the first visit at this level since establishing diplomatic relations in 1992 and signaled a defining step in strengthening the Moldova–Morocco partnership.

During the meeting, the two ministers signed several bilateral documents, including a Joint Declaration, an agreement to abolish visas for diplomatic and service passports, memoranda of understanding on political consultations, economic diplomacy, cultural cooperation, and collaboration between diplomatic institutes.

Minister Popsoi stated that the declaration reflects a clear will to build a strong, diverse, and result-oriented bilateral relationship. He also highlighted Morocco’s support for Moldova’s European integration and the peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian conflict.

The two officials will cooperate potential in trade, food security, tourism, green energy, digital technologies, and agriculture. They proposed establishing a Bilateral Economic Committee to facilitate joint projects and business cooperation.

Minister Nasser Bourita affirmed their joint ambition to elevate the relationship into a genuine partnership. He noted that their dialogue revealed how close the two countries are and expressed confidence that they are opening a new chapter in their bilateral ties.

In the cultural and educational sphere, both ministers agreed to increase academic exchanges and promote shared heritage. On the multilateral front, they reaffirmed their commitment to active cooperation within international organizations, including the UN and Francophonie.

Minister Bourita stated that Morocco and Moldova share common values and believe in international law principles such as sovereignty, territorial integrity, and constructive neighborly relations. He added that Morocco is proud to partner with a country that has shown both will and credibility on its European path.

This visit laid the foundation for long-term cooperation between Moldova and Morocco and opened clear prospects for concrete projects that will benefit both nations.
