Alexandru Munteanu recounted the evening when President Maia Sandu called him to propose his candidacy for Prime Minister. He said that the conversation began with the President talking about CodruČ› and her dog Cooper, before she hinted at the real purpose of the call.
Munteanu told InProfunzime on ProTV that he took time to reflect before responding. He discussed the offer with his family and close friends.
“After that, I had two sleepless nights, talked with my family and closest friends, and now here I am. Ten days ago, I was a free person thinking about vacations and universities. Now I am in the Republic of Moldova because I believe this was a calling in life. I realize the responsibility I carry,” Munteanu said.
Although PAS announced it will nominate Alexandru Munteanu for Prime Minister, several formalities remain. The new Legislature will hold its first session on October 22, after which parliamentary factions will form. Once the factions are established, deputies will consult with the Head of State to discuss the next Prime Minister candidate.
PAS representatives stated that Dorin Recean declined the position. The current acting Prime Minister also announced that he will renounce his parliamentary mandate, after running in second place on the party list in the parliamentary elections.
