Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, who is on an official visit to the Republic of Moldova. The discussions focused on cooperation between Moldova and the international organization, as well as the measures needed to advance the priorities of Moldova’s presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

The Prime Minister also referred to his recent visit to Brussels, noting that the Government is working intensively to ensure the country’s accession to the European Union.

“We want to show our citizens that joining the EU is not only about meeting certain requirements, but also about access to better education and healthcare services, infrastructure projects, a more favorable business environment, and greater security,” said Alexandru Munteanu.

In turn, Alain Berset praised the way the September 28 parliamentary elections were conducted, despite hybrid attacks and Russian interference.

Moldova has taken over the six-month presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The country’s priorities include strengthening democracy, protecting human rights, combating disinformation, and continuing to support Ukraine.

On November 20–21, Secretary General Berset will participate in the meetings of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Chisinau, bringing together around 60 parliamentarians from the 46 member states of the Council of Europe. The event is hosted by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
