NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana, on Independence Day: “Let us send a clear message of support and backing for Moldova’s projects and objectives”

The European integration of the Republic of Moldova is a national objective of Romania’s foreign policy, according to the message of NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana, delivered on Independence Day.

The official appreciates the aspirations of Moldovan citizens for European integration, noting that it is necessary to send a message of support for the Republic of Moldova.

“On Moldova’s Independence Day, we need to send a clear message of support and backing for Moldova’s projects and objectives. For us, for Romania, the European integration of our brothers and sisters across the Prut is a national foreign policy objective from which we cannot deviate,” Mircea Geoana’s message posted on social networks reads.

Geoana said that the European Union granted Moldova candidate status two years ago. “It was the moment that confirmed the European trajectory and the desire of Moldovans to be part of the European family,” the message reads.

Support for Moldova’s accession to the European Union was affirmed today in Chisinau by the presidents of the Baltic countries. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, Estonian President Alar Karis, and Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics signed a joint declaration in Chisinau.

Today, the Republic of Moldova celebrates 33 years since the proclamation of Independence with an open-air concert in the Great National Assembly Square.
