Nearly 100 refugees donated blood to express gratitude to Moldova for offering them shelter. The symbolic gesture took place ahead of World Blood Donor Day (June 14) and World Refugee Day (June 20), moldova1.md reports.
Among those who found refuge in Moldova is Nigar Iusubova, a Ukrainian mother of three, one of whom is autistic. She donated blood for the first time, sending a powerful message of compassion and gratitude.
“I’m glad I can help someone and offer my blood for an emergency because Moldova helped us a lot when we arrived—and now I want to give back the same way. I can’t work anywhere, so I hope this is a way I can give back,” she said.

Specialists from the National Blood Transfusion Center provided all necessary equipment to support the donation effort. They reminded the public that a single blood donation can save up to three lives.
“The need for blood transfusion therapy increases every day. Hospital demands are quite high, and we always strive to maintain enough stock to meet those needs. We have reserves calculated to supply transfusion therapy for up to three months in case of emergencies,” said transfusion specialist Viorica Candu.
According to data from the Refugee Charity Center, over 100,000 refugees from Ukraine are currently residing in Moldova, while the number of refugees from other countries exceeds 1,000.
