New Opportunities for European Funding: Moldova Can Access Larger Budgets Through Interreg Programs

The Government approved an increase of €20 million in non-reimbursable financial assistance under the Interreg NEXT Romania–Republic of Moldova 2021–2027 Programme.

This decision raises the program’s total budget to €97.3 million. These funds support joint projects by partners in Romania and the Republic of Moldova in healthcare, education, tourism, culture, climate change, good governance, and border management.

So far, the Republic of Moldova has received significant funding through this program. Authorities will schedule a new call for project proposals for the end of April 2025.

The Government also approved a €20 million increase to the Interreg Black Sea Basin Programme 2021–2027, funded by the European Union.

The program, with a total budget of €85 million, includes seven countries besides the Republic of Moldova. It supports projects in research and innovation, climate change adaptation, disaster risk prevention, nature protection, and strengthening ties between communities.

The Republic of Moldova already accessed significant funding through this program. Authorities selected 10 projects worth €1.5 million in the first call and 13 projects worth €3.7 million in the second call.
