Kevin Covert, the new United States Charge d’Affaires ad interim, has begun his mission in the Republic of Moldova. He met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi, where he reaffirmed the U.S.’s strong support for Moldova’s European path and continued democratic reforms, IPN reports.
Deputy Prime Minister Popsoi officially welcomed Covert and expressed Moldova’s eagerness to deepen its bilateral ties with the United States. He thanked the U.S. for its ongoing support and highlighted the importance of American-backed projects that deliver direct benefits to Moldovan citizens.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs focuses on deepening the long-term Moldova–U.S. partnership, broadening cooperation across key sectors, and identifying new opportunities for bilateral collaboration.

Covert served as Charge d’Affaires in Moldova in December 2024. He now heads East European Affairs at the U.S. State Department, overseeing Moldova, Ukraine, and Belarus.
