New U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Moldova Seeks Recommendations from Citizens

Nick Pietrowicz, the new Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, personally asked Moldovan citizens for recommendations. In a video message published on social media, he said he had already started discovering the country since arriving in Chișinău and felt impressed, but wanted guidance from locals.

“What places should I visit, what food and wines should I try, and which festivals should I attend? I invite you to share your suggestions in the comments,” Pietrowicz said.

Citizens quickly responded online with their first recommendations.

At the beginning of August, the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau announced Nick Pietrowicz as Chargé d’Affaires. He replaced Kevin Covert, who completed a short-term diplomatic mission in Moldova and returned to Washington.

Pietrowicz brings long experience as a diplomat and as a special agent of the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service. He served in overseas posts in Port-au-Prince (Haiti), Kabul (Afghanistan), N’Djamena (Chad), Luanda (Angola), Canberra (Australia), and Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina).

Between 2008 and 2011, Pietrowicz worked as a Regional Security Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Chișinău, a position that gave him firsthand knowledge of Moldova. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and Temple University School of Law. Besides English, he speaks French, Portuguese, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, and Romanian.
