Moldova’s Defense Ministry is not responsible for the country’s public alert systems, Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii said while commenting on recent drone incidents near Moldova’s borders.
Nosatii suggested that journalists direct questions about the alert system to other state authorities responsible for the matter.
At the same time, the minister said he believes Moldova needs such a system to warn the public about potential dangers.
“The alert system does not fall under the competence of the Defense Ministry, but as a minister I will say that it is our responsibility to have such a system in the interests of citizens, in order to prevent potential dangers and inform people about how to act in different situations. As far as I know, my colleagues are advanced in this process, and I believe you will get more information from them,” Nosatii said.
The statement comes after a series of drone-related incidents in the region, including an attack near the Moldova-Ukraine border and the recent entry of a Russian drone into Moldovan airspace.
The concept for Moldova’s national MD-Alert system has already been approved by the Government. According to the Cabinet, its implementation is planned for 2027.
