Olympic and Paralympic Athletes from the Republic of Moldova Honored by the Romanian Royal Family

Moldovan athletes who participated in the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris were honored by the Royal House of Romania in Bucharest. The Royal Evening of Civic Courage was hosted by Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown, and His Royal Highness Prince Radu.

“This evening celebrates the exceptional demonstration of what it truly means to serve the nation and society by the Olympic and Paralympic athletes from Romania and the Republic of Moldova, through their merits, the support of their families and coaches, as well as the outstanding example of community spirit shown by those who risk their lives to save others,” stated Prince Radu in his opening speech.

The honorees included:

  • Anastasia Nichita, Olympic silver medalist in wrestling.
  • Serghei Tarnovschi, bronze medalist in canoe sprint.
  • Denis Vieru and Adil Osmanov, bronze medalists in judo.
  • Ion Basoc and Oleg Cretul, silver and bronze medalists at the Paralympic Games, were recognized for their determination and indomitable spirit.

Honorary recognition diplomas were also awarded to Moldovan sports organizations, such as the Wrestling Federation, Canoe-Kayak Federation, Judo Federation, Paralympic Committee, and National Olympic and Sports Committee.

The event also honored Romanian athletes who excelled at the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris:

  • David Popovici, gold and bronze medalist in swimming.
  • Ana Maria Barbosu, bronze medalist in artistic gymnastics.
  • Sabrina Maneca Voinea, who secured 5th place in artistic gymnastics.
  • Rowing crews that brought home gold and silver medals, including Simona Radis, Ioana Vrinceanu, Ancuta Bodnar, and other elite athletes.
  • Mihaela Cambei, silver medalist in weightlifting.
  • Paralympic athletes Florin Alexandru Bologa and Camelia Ciripan won gold and bronze at the 2024 Paralympic Games.

Now in its third edition, the Royal Evening of Civic Courage is an initiative aimed at publicly recognizing those whose actions inspire and contribute to building a better society.
