On the eve of the September 28, 2025, parliamentary elections, false news and disinformation are spreading rapidly across the media space. These campaigns aim to erode trust in the electoral process and sway voters’ opinions.
The Realitatea media group questioned citizens about what they know regarding this phenomenon. Many pointed to misleading information about energy tariffs, which often circulates during election periods.
“I think we encounter this phenomenon daily. The strangest fake news would be that gas is getting more expensive by 40 lei, or that expired products are being sold on store shelves,” one respondent said.
Another added: “We are promised cheap gas, at 10 lei!”

Interviewees also warned that artificial intelligence poses a major challenge in combating disinformation.
“Fake news is very relevant right now, and access to media is much greater. Most of the population doesn’t know whether the information is true. Especially with AI, it’s easier to mimic people’s faces. Telegram is full of fake news, Viber too,” another citizen noted.
Moldovan citizens will vote on September 28, 2025, to directly elect 101 deputies to Parliament for a four-year term.
