On Thursday, July 24, the 21st contingent of Moldovan peacekeepers, including 41 infantry soldiers and engineering specialists, departed for the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. This mission features the participation of four female soldiers for the second consecutive year.
Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii stated that the soldiers deployed by the Republic of Moldova for the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo are trained according to international standards. They will be interoperable with the partner states’ armies, ensuring peace and security in the region.
“Any participation in international missions provides valuable experience, new knowledge in the field, the opportunity to interact with soldiers from other participating contingents, and, not least, demonstrates that the Republic of Moldova is an international security contributor and a reliable partner,” noted the Defense Minister.
The representative of the Italian Republic in Chisinau, Armando Pascal, thanked the Moldovan peacekeepers for their contribution to the international peacekeeping effort.
“Italy is proud to collaborate with the Republic of Moldova, sharing a common goal of building a prosperous and secure future in every corner of the continent,” concluded Armando Pascal.
In March this year, the National Army marked 10 years of participation in the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. The KFOR-21 contingent of the National Army will carry out security missions, protect military sites, and patrol the area of responsibility.
The Moldovan soldiers will be part of the Regional Command-West at Camp Villaggio Italia in Pech, Kosovo.
