Protesters gathered outside Moldova’s Parliament on Sovereignty Day and adopted a declaration on the sovereign policy of the Republic of Moldova. The demonstration brought together members of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), the Communist Party (PCRM), and representatives of the “Future of Moldova” and “Heart of Moldova” parties.

Former President Igor Dodon claimed that Moldova has lost its sovereignty, alleging that foreign nationals govern the country. “How can a state ruled by citizens of other countries be considered sovereign? Maia Sandu, Dorin Recean, and Igor Grosu—all are citizens of a foreign state,” Dodon said. He also accused the country’s institutions of being “run by Soros’ representatives.”

“Today, we have no sovereignty—we must fight for it. This fight will be the most important for us and our descendants soon,” Dodon declared.

Socialist MP Petru Burduja echoed these sentiments, urging the crowd to “wake up and save the Republic of Moldova.” He described Moldova’s external partners as “colonizers” and called for a change in leadership to restore national sovereignty.

The event, which appeared to counter the government-organized Sovereignty March, marks a continuation of the political rift over Moldova’s direction and international partnerships.
