Minister of Internal Affairs Adrian Efros, with State Secretary Mariana Lucretseanu, will participate in the 15th anniversary of the Meeting of Senior Officials for the Prague Process (SOM) in Chisinau on September 24-25. The event brings together high-level decision-makers and representatives of partner organizations from some 20 countries to discuss major developments in national and regional migration policy since the launch of the process in 2009.

Interior Minister Adrian Efros emphasized the importance of the forum for establishing effective migration policies and stressed the need for international cooperation.

“The Republic of Moldova has shown its commitment to implementing a resilient migration management system, strengthening regional security, and sharing best practices in addressing current challenges,” the minister said.

The event participants discussed the impact of migration on regional security and the necessary measures for crisis management. They discussed the operational challenges and priorities set out in the Action Plan for 2023-2027.

“The Prague Process has consistently proven effective on the international stage, leading efforts to enhance cooperation on migration issues. It has successfully implemented numerous projects covering various aspects of migration management. These initiatives have provided practical solutions and fostered collaboration between Member States and other stakeholders, allowing us to move forward on legal migration pathways, focusing on capacity building, common challenges, and the exchange of best practices. Migration is not only a challenge but can become an opportunity if properly managed with the support of international partners and European instruments”, underlined Adrian Efros.

During the meeting, Minister Adrian Efros had a bilateral meeting with ICMPD Director General Michael Spindelegger, where they talked about strengthening cooperation in the context of Moldova’s European course and continuing joint efforts in managing refugee flows from Ukraine.

Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) stated that the Prague Process Senior Officials’ Meeting offers a crucial platform for participating states to exchange best practices and discuss the future of cooperation in migration and asylum.

The Prague Process remains a key mechanism for dialogue on migration between the 50 participating States from the EU and the region, facilitating collaboration and coordination in the face of contemporary migration challenges.
