The cultural campaign “Loteanu Week in Moldova”, dedicated to the life and work of renowned director Emil Loteanu, has been launched by the Realitatea Media Group. The organisers aim to bring the filmmaker’s artistic legacy back into the public spotlight and give younger generations the opportunity to discover the work of the master who helped bring Moldovan cinema to international audiences.
Dumitru Țîra, founder of the Realitatea Media Group, spoke about the importance of keeping Emil Loteanu’s cultural legacy alive and introducing it to new audiences.
“First of all, today marks 90 years since the birth of Emil Loteanu, who is a great national figure. Our initiative was born, I believe, out of three motivations or three feelings.
“The first is pride, because Emil Loteanu made Moldova known throughout the world. The second is a sense of belonging, because he was Moldovan and shared the same homeland with us. And the third is a sense of responsibility on our part: to bring him home spiritually, to ensure that younger generations get to know him and discover his work,” Dumitru Țîra said.
The campaign will continue over the coming days with a series of film screenings. Realitatea TV will broadcast four of Emil Loteanu’s iconic films every evening at 9:00 p.m.: The Fiddlers, My Sweet and Tender Beast, The Gypsies Are Found Near Heaven, and Anna Pavlova.
The films will also be screened at Cineplex Loteanu.
