Rogac, Plahotniuc’s lawyer: Greek prosecutors have not yet received the necessary documents for extradition to Moldova

Lucian Rogac, the lawyer representing former Democratic Party leader Vlad Plahotniuc, claims that Greek prosecutors have not yet received the necessary extradition documents from Moldovan authorities. In a video statement posted on social media, Rogac accused the Moldovan side of intentionally delaying the procedure.

According to Rogac, Plahotniuc’s legal team in Greece was informed by the local prosecutor’s office that the required documentation from Moldova has yet to arrive. He warned that if the case proceeds to Athens, the process could take between 12 and 30 days.

“We hope this will happen soon; otherwise, we will conclude that the Moldovan authorities are deliberately stalling,” said Rogac. “As Mr. Plahotniuc’s legal representative, I call on the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Moldova to expedite the preparation and delivery of the necessary files, by legal procedures. So, the process can move forward and Mr. Plahotniuc can return home to answer the accusations against him.”

Rogac also criticized what he sees as misplaced priorities: “The Prosecutor’s Office would have used its time better by sending the actual extradition documents instead of merely requesting information from the Greek authorities about the validity of the extradition request. According to the Greek side, they have not received them to this day.”

The lawyer reiterated that Plahotniuc has never refused extradition and that he signed the necessary papers last Friday. However, due to formalities, those documents only reached Greek prosecutors on July 29, 2025.
