Veaceslav Platon has filed a request with the court asking to testify as a witness in the banking fraud case in which former Democratic Party leader Vladimir Plahotniuc is on trial.

According to the application submitted to the Chisinau Court, Buiucani branch, Platon asked the judges to hear him via videoconference. Several witnesses mentioned his name during earlier hearings, but the court has not included him on the official witness list.

Lawyer Lucian Rogac commented on Platon request, saying he had only just received a copy of the document.

“I have only recently received the application. It is quite extensive, around 200 pages. We will present our position, but I do not want to make any preliminary statements until I review it,” Rogac said.

The court will decide at upcoming hearings whether to accept or reject Veaceslav Platon request.

Meanwhile, on January 6, 2026, the Chisinau Court, Buiucani branch, continued hearings in the so called banking fraud case, the Plahotniuc episode. The case is currently at the stage where the defense presents evidence. The hearing is taking place without the defendant, who asked not to be brought to court, citing the need to study the case materials.

During the session, the court heard testimony from Alina Deleanu, a former receptionist at Prime Management, a company linked to Vladimir Plahotniuc. Prosecutors had previously questioned her as a witness in the same case.

The judges also heard statements from Olga Bondarciuc, a former notary, who told the court that she is currently unemployed.

So far, the court has approved the hearing of 27 witnesses out of the 164 proposed by the defense, while the summoning of the remaining witnesses continues.
