Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has called on Moldovans living abroad to offer pro bono professional expertise to the Government in their respective fields, saying the country could benefit from the experience of its diaspora.

The appeal came after the Prime Minister received a letter from a Moldovan citizen living in Italy who works in the maritime sector.

According to Tofan, the specialist expressed his willingness to help the Government attract more ships to sail under the Moldovan flag. The Prime Minister said he had forwarded the expert’s résumé to Infrastructure Minister Vladimir Bolea, adding that he hoped the assistance would be provided free of charge.

“I hope he will do it for free. Dear Moldovans in the diaspora, if more of you would like to contribute your expertise on issues you happen to see discussed during Government meetings—and especially if you are willing to do so on a pro bono basis, because we don’t really have the money to pay you, although in some cases we might find it—please write to us,” Tofan said.

In recent Government meetings, the Cabinet has approved several decisions related to the maritime sector, with the stated objective of attracting more vessels to register under the Moldovan flag.

Infrastructure Minister Vladimir Bolea has also previously announced that Moldova could establish a specialized maritime training school for seafarers in the future.
