Instability in Ukraine’s electricity network, affected by Russian bombings, caused technical disruptions at Chisinau International Airport on Monday, leading to flight cancellations and significant delays in airport services.
Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Vladimir Bolea told IPN that Moldova’s electricity supply currently depends on its interconnection with Ukraine, and recent power outages disrupted airport equipment.
“Although we have three power supply lines—one main and two backups—a malfunction occurred due to these outages, affecting a key airport machine,” Bolea said on TVR Moldova’s program Punctul pe Azi. The airport staff resolved the issue by noon using spare parts and switching to manual control, minimizing disruption.

Bolea emphasized the ongoing construction of the Vulcanesti–Chisinau power line, which will grant Moldova energy independence and prevent similar incidents in the future.
