The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, sent a congratulatory message to the country’s Jewish community, which celebrates Hanukkah—the beautiful Festival of Lights and a symbol of faith, hope, and solidarity—from Wednesday, December 25, 2024, to January 2, 2025.
“This holiday is an opportunity to reflect on our society and the importance of uniting communities, mutual respect, tolerance, and protecting peace in our country and worldwide. Hag Hanukkah Sameach!” said President Maia Sandu.

Jews worldwide celebrate Hanukkah, known as the “Festival of Lights” or the “Jewish Christmas.” The holiday commemorates the miracle of the menorah oil, which burned for eight days with just a single jar of pure oil—enough for only one day under normal circumstances.
In Chisinau, an official candle-lighting ceremony will take place on Thursday, December 26, on the pedestrian street in the city center. The event will begin at 3:30 PM, and RLIVE TV and RLIVE.MD will broadcast the ceremony live.
