President Maia Sandu: “Moldova Stands with Poland to Build a Stronger, Safer, and More United Europe”

During an official visit to Warsaw, President Maia Sandu reaffirmed Moldova’s strong partnership with Poland and expressed her country’s commitment to building a stronger, safer, and more united Europe. The Moldovan head of state made these statements at a joint press conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda.

“For 33 years, Moldova and Poland have built a relationship rooted in trust, solidarity, and shared goals. Today, I am proud to say that this partnership is stronger than ever,” said President Sandu.

She thanked President Duda for Poland’s consistent support over the years, highlighting his engagement, diplomatic advocacy, and deep understanding of the region as vital contributions to Moldova’s progress.

Partnership in Action

President Sandu emphasized Poland’s practical assistance in Moldova’s development and resilience:

“In 2021, when Russia weaponized gas, Moldova made its first free-market gas purchase—from a Polish company. Polish support has helped modernize our schools, hospitals, and public institutions. You have also equipped and trained our law enforcement bodies to withstand an increasingly complex security landscape.”

She invited Polish investors to explore opportunities in Moldova, particularly in agriculture, food processing, construction, banking, and renewable energy.

Poland as a Model for European Integration

Sandu praised Poland’s democratic transformation and economic modernization, describing it as an inspiration for Moldova’s journey toward EU membership.

“Poland has shown how profoundly EU membership can transform lives—in cities, industries, and households. Moldova is now on the same path—with commitment, seriousness, and determination. We are not asking for shortcuts. We are doing the work because we believe in this project and want to contribute to it.”

She added that Moldova is ready to strengthen the EU, just as Poland did upon joining.

Standing Together for European Security

Sandu also stressed Moldova’s frontline role in defending democracy against cyberattacks, disinformation, and illicit financing, sharing insights with European partners in this evolving field.

“We value Poland’s strong voice in Europe. You’ve brought clarity to key EU debates on enlargement, energy, and resilience. We are grateful that you see Moldova’s security as integral to Europe’s security,” she stated.

“Moldova stands proudly with Poland. Together, we are determined to build a more resilient, united Europe.”

Strengthening Ties

President Sandu’s working visit to Poland is part of Moldova’s broader effort to promote its European integration and deepen bilateral relations. Her agenda includes a meeting with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, where discussions will focus on the EU enlargement and cooperation in political, economic, and security areas.

At the invitation of Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, Sandu will also address the annual conference of Polish ambassadors, delivering a speech on Moldova’s progress, the EU expansion, and the country’s role as a reliable and responsible partner.

The visit will conclude with a meeting with the Moldovan community in Poland.
