President of the Romanian Senate Nicolae Ciuca: The decision to start EU accession negotiations is absolutely justified

The decision to start negotiations on joining the European Union is correct. This was stated today in Chisinau by the President of the Senate of Romania, Nicolae Chuca, during a joint briefing with the President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu.

The Romanian official specified that during today’s visit, a message was conveyed to ensure Romania’s support to the Republic of Moldova during its accession to the EU.

“I am glad that the first foreign visit after taking office is being made to the Republic of Moldova. I had a meeting with President Maia Sandu and then with Igor Grosu. We feel at home in Chisinau as the EU integration process strengthens bilateral relations. It is so important to explain the benefits of EU membership. We are talking about financial support, economic growth, support for farmers, and security, thanks to NATO. In the fall, an assessment of the fulfillment of the conditions will take place, and in December, we hope to decide on the start of negotiations on accession to the EU. This is a necessary decision. Moldova, like Romania, has the potential to be developed, and we will provide all the necessary support in this regard, Nicolae Chuca promised.

For his part, Speaker Igor Grosu said that the decision of Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Colacu and President of the Romanian Senate Nicolae Chuca to make their first foreign visit to the Republic of Moldova is a signal of support for its course towards European integration.

“Cooperation at the parliamentary level is good. At the same time, joint meetings are held in the two parliamentary commissions. We aim to use all of Romania’s experience in the process of European integration and reach a decision to start EU accession negotiations. At these moments, we need the support of our Romanian partners. We are sure that the time will come when Romania and Moldova will be in the EU,” said Igor Grosu.

Today, the Prime Minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu, and the President of the Senate of Romania, Nicolae Chuca, are on a visit to Chisinau.
