The European Union plans to offer Moldova new financial assistance totaling 1.8 billion euros over the next three years, according to a report published by Europa Liberă. Ursula von der Leyen will announce this when she arrives in Chisinau on October 10.
The EU plans to allocate 1.8 billion euros to Moldova, with 1.5 billion designated in loans and the rest as grants. The EU may provide these funds through the Reform and Growth Mechanism, a new initiative launched in May to support the transformation of Balkan countries, as the cited source indicates.
For candidate countries receiving six billion euros, the Europeans aim to “support alignment with EU values, legislative provisions, norms, standards, policies, and practices in preparation for future EU membership, as well as progressive integration into the EU single market and socio-economic convergence with the EU.” Likely, the same principles could also apply to the Republic of Moldova.
