Serghei Tarnovschi, Daniela Cociu, and Maria Olarasu are the three athletes who will compete in canoeing to represent the Republic of Moldova at the Paris Olympic Games.
Serghei Tarnovschi will compete in the Olympics for the third time this year. He previously participated in the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016 and the Tokyo Games in 2020, where he secured third place. Tarnovschi’s coach is Nicolae Juravschi, the president of the National Olympic and Sports Committee of Moldova and a double Olympic canoeing champion.
Daniela Cociu competed in the 2020 Olympics and achieved 7th place. This year will mark her second appearance at the largest and most prestigious international competition.
Maria Olarasu, like her teammate Daniela, is competing for the second time in the Olympics. In 2020, in Tokyo, she finished in 7th place.
Viktor Reneiski, Daniela and Maria’s coach made history by winning gold in the 500 and 1000-meter events at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

The canoe competition is held on calm water and involves speed races over various distances. Athletes kneel in the canoe and use a single-bladed paddle.
