Prime Minister Dorin Recean and the Executive Board of the UN Development Agencies in talks on aligning external assistance programs with national development priorities

The government reviewed the work of United Nations agencies in Moldova and aligned assistance programs with national development priorities. The discussions occurred at a session of the executive committee of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). Prime Minister Dorin Recean attended the event.

Prime Minister Recean thanked the three UN entities for their support, emphasizing their role in strengthening public institutions, fostering refugee inclusion, improving social cohesion, promoting demographic resilience, advancing economic development, and enhancing social protection.

“We rely on this assistance not only to address current challenges but also to seize development opportunities. Achieving our strategic goals requires significant transformations, and the expertise provided by UN agencies in implementing the EU acquis helps us advance more quickly,” Recean stated.

The prime minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to justice reform and upholding the rule of law, calling these priorities essential for achieving broader objectives. He also highlighted plans to build investor confidence, accelerate digitalization, and stimulate economic growth to enable greater social investment.

The UNDP, UNFPA members, and UNOPS executive committee praised their strategic partnership with Moldova’s authorities. They acknowledged progress in key reforms and emphasized how aligning the European integration agenda with the Sustainable Development Goals paves the way for a prosperous future for all Moldovans.

The UNDP, UNFPA, and UNOPS executive committee began their official visit to Moldova on December 2 and will continue until December 4. During the visit, they will meet with ministers, local authorities, and national partners to assess current assistance needs and ensure alignment with Moldova’s development priorities.
