Public transport in Chisinau continues to rely on subsidies from the municipal budget, while the fare of 7 lei per trip remains below the actual cost of travel. Deputy mayor Olesea Psenitchi stated that City Hall covers the difference to keep transport affordable for residents.

According to her, authorities allocated approximately 830 million lei in 2026 to operate the public transport system. The funding covers fuel, maintenance of vehicles, and benefits for certain categories of passengers.

At the same time, local authorities face growing financial pressure due to rising costs, particularly diesel prices, which increased by more than 80% in April alone.

Despite these challenges, City Hall representatives say they will maintain the current fare to avoid placing additional burdens on citizens.

Authorities also confirmed that, starting May 1, passengers in Chisinau will pay 7 lei for a trip by trolleybus or bus.
