Republic of Moldova Greenlighted to Join the EU Convention on Trade Facilitation

On September 25, 2025, the Council of the European Union gave the Republic of Moldova the green light to accede to the Convention on the Simplification of Formalities in Trade in Goods, signed on May 20, 1987.

The Council described the decision as symbolic yet strategic, highlighting it as direct recognition of the Customs Service’s reform and modernization efforts. Starting November 1, 2025, Chisinau can officially join the Convention by depositing its Instrument of Accession with the General Secretariat of the EU Council.

“This invitation represents European-level recognition of the transformation path undertaken by the Customs Service. It is a moment of pride and responsibility, proving that we can build a modern, European customs system focused on trade facilitation. It is an achievement of the Customs Service team and a gain for all economic operators in the Republic of Moldova,” said Alexandru Iacub, Director of the Customs Service.

By acceding to the Convention, the Republic of Moldova will harmonize its customs practices with those of EU states, ensuring faster, more transparent, and more competitive trade.
