The PAS MP and Olympic wrestling silver medalist Anastasia Nichita announced on Monday morning, January 26, that she is stepping down from her parliamentary mandate because she cannot currently balance motherhood, her sports career, and legislative duties.
Nichita wrote in a public message that the position of MP requires full presence, complete dedication, and energy that she cannot offer right now at the level voters deserve.
She said she made the decision after much reflection and chose to focus on where she feels most needed at this moment, with her child and family and on her sporting goals, including her plan to compete at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Anastasia Nichita entered Parliament after the autumn 2025 elections, and authorities validated her mandate in October.
She said she leaves Parliament with gratitude for everyone who trusted her and added that every vote, message of support, and kind word mattered. She noted that difficult moments, criticism, and attacks strengthened her and taught her important lessons.
Nichita said she will remain involved in public life and will continue to contribute to the development and promotion of sporting and national values whenever possible.
