In September, the European Parliament will inaugurate its new office in Chisinau, which a Romanian citizen will lead. President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola will attend the event alongside Vice President Victor Negrescu, who confirmed the news during the Moldova ZOOM program on RFI.
“We plan to be there in September, together with President Roberta Metsola, to open this office because we want to be directly involved and support everything related to the implementation of European legislation,” Negrescu explained.
He emphasized that the office will play a key role not only in communication but also in helping Moldova adapt and understand EU legislation. “We want to explain these things in a way that highlights the advantages of EU membership, which far outweigh what any other economic space or non-membership status can offer. This initiative comes at a time when misinformation about the EU and its rules is spreading, and it’s increasingly difficult to counter it,” he said.

Negrescu added that the office will offer Moldovan parliamentarians and experts the chance to gain insight into how decisions are made in Brussels and how they can influence them. “This office will be crucial because it will serve as the European Parliament’s link to all Eastern Partnership states,” he stressed.
He also expressed pride that Chisinau, once seen as trailing in the EU accession process, has now become a central point for the Eastern Partnership—at least from the European Parliament’s perspective. “I’m very pleased with this achievement and the fact that the European Parliament supported my initiative,” Negrescu concluded.
