Romania aims to integrate Moldova and Ukraine into the European Union’s energy infrastructure by 2027, according to a joint declaration signed by the foreign ministers of the three countries during a trilateral meeting in Chernivtsi.
Foreign Ministers Mihai Popsoi (Moldova), Oana Toiu (Romania), and Andrei Sybiha (Ukraine) emphasized the need for close cooperation in the energy sector. They highlighted the importance of diversifying energy sources to ensure a stable electricity and gas supply for citizens in Moldova and Ukraine.
“Romania will continue to support the integration of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova into the European common energy market by 2027. We are working towards diversifying Ukraine’s gas supply through accession to the trans-Balkan route, which has significant potential for transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Ukraine. In this context, we hope that together, Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine will make our gas transportation systems safer and more independent,” the declaration states.
