Romania Raises Road and Bridge Tolls from September 1

Starting today, September 1, Moldovan drivers traveling through or across Romania will face higher road tolls (rovinieta), according to IPN. The new tariffs vary by vehicle type and the validity period of the vignette.

For Class A cars, the updated prices are:

  • €3.5 for one day
  • €6 for seven days
  • €9.5 for one month
  • €15 for 60 days
  • €50 for one year

Fines for driving without a vignette have also increased, now ranging between 500 and 1,000 Romanian lei.

Additional changes affect bridge tolls over the Danube. Drivers will now pay:

  • 19 lei per crossing between Fetesti and Cernavoda
  • 16 lei per crossing between Giurgeni and Vadu Oii

Avoiding payment can result in fines of 190 to 380 lei.

Authorities clarified that vignettes and bridge passes purchased before September 1 remain valid until their expiration date, with no extra charges. The government estimates the new tariffs will generate about €30 million in additional revenue.
