Russian energy giant Gazprom stops supplying natural gas. Romanian Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja assured that an action plan is in place to ensure Moldova’s priority access to gas stored in Romania.
Romania’s Support Against Energy Blackmail
Burduja emphasized Romania’s readiness for winter, noting that the country has sufficient resources to support Moldova. “Romania has a duty, and Europe has a duty, not to abandon Moldova and Ukraine in the face of aggression from the East, whether through tanks or the barbaric blackmail in the energy sector,” he stated on his Facebook account.
“Our friends beyond the Prut River need Romania’s help as they face intense pressure from Russia regarding energy access. Nothing is worse than being dependent on those who use their resources not for development but as a weapon of blackmail,” Burduja added. “Moldova has declared a state of emergency in the energy sector, and just as we have supported them in the past—based not only on the agreements between our countries but also on the shared values that will always unite us—we will continue to stand with Chisinau.”

Bucharest Launches Action Plan
Burduja explained that Romania’s Ministry of Energy works closely with Moldova’s authorities and European officials to manage the situation if Gazprom halts its gas deliveries. Romania has launched an action plan with four key components:
- Dialogue between Romanian and Moldovan companies for the procurement of electricity, if needed, on a commercial basis.
- Identifying technical solutions to supply electricity through existing power lines, including the 110 kV lines crossing the Prut River.
- Romania will prioritize Moldova’s access to gas stored in the country in case of a crisis as long as it does not affect domestic consumption.
- Enhancing operational balancing capacities for gas.
