Romgaz Trading SRL, the Moldova subsidiary of Romania state owned company Romgaz, has received a natural gas trading license from the National Agency for Energy Regulation in Chisinau. The ANRE granted the license last week for a period of 10 years, valid until January 12, 2036, according to bani.md.

The company registered in Chisinau on October 10, 2025, with a share capital of one million Moldovan lei. Official documents show that Romgaz Trading SRL will operate mainly on the wholesale market. Its activities include trading and distributing gaseous fuels through pipelines, as well as producing and distributing electricity.

Earlier, Romgaz management estimated that the Moldovan market has a potential of about 1 billion cubic meters of gas per year and that the company could cover 20 to 30 percent of the volumes imported by the Moldovan state, profit.ro reported. Romgaz plans to use price differences between the two markets, as Romanian regulations require the company to sell gas at controlled prices for households and combined heat and power plants until March 31, 2026.

Company calculations show that operations in Moldova could reach break even at sales of around 100000 MWh per year, at an estimated price of about 38 euros per MWh, or roughly 190 lei per MWh, even in a pessimistic scenario. In an optimistic scenario, the profit margin for the first three years could range between 8.5 and 10.5 percent.

Romgaz bases its expansion across the Prut River on several market developments. These include the Iasi Ungheni gas interconnection with an annual capacity of 1.88 billion cubic meters, the takeover of transport on the Ungheni Chisinau route by Vestmoldtransgaz, a company owned by Transgaz of Romania, and the launch of the electronic gas trading platform operated by the Romanian Commodity Exchange in Chisinau.
